Hey guys, Evan here with EZ Custom Ag, out the field again. Ready to shell some 65-44 AgriGold.
It’s a Family A, so one of the defining characteristics of a Family A is plant health. This actually had some fungicide on it, Veltima to be exact. We still had just a little bit of tarspot come in here really, really late, can’t say that it affected yield at all, really just kind of in the upper canopy. If we look at the lower leaves, we really don’t see any, so that’s a really good sign.
The ears are just massive in here. One thing about Family A’s is they will flex in length and girth, and if we look at the girth this year, it’s just absolutely amazing how many kernels around these things will put on.
Now, one thing is with a Family A that flexes in length and girth, we’re not going to get the kernel size like we had in the 642-59 that we looked at a couple days ago. You can tell that these kernels are smaller, but I would say that our grain volume per ear is going to actually be higher on this.
These Family A’s are kind of a princess hybrid family, I guess I would say. They like lots of potassium, they like lots of nitrogen early. They want to build that ear early in the season, and 65-44, is actually going out of the lineup now. They are moving to a 116 -day hybrid, but the 65-44, if you treat it right, it will treat you right at the end of the year, and we’re seeing that again this year, you guys can tell from the huge ears.
This is a 36 ,000 population, and these things are just stacked in here. Just wanted to show you guys what we are going to be shelling today, haven’t broke this field open yet, so I don’t know where the yield is going to be, but looking at the ears and the stand, I would say that we are going to be in pretty good shape. Thanks for listening, guys.
