Hey guys, Evan here with EZ Custom Ag. We’re back in the saddle again today. This is day six, I believe, of running beans here on our home farm. Things have been pretty steady as far as yields go. Been pretty good across the board. This is our third variety we’ve been in, so things have been pretty good.
Last time we talked to you, we were in Xitavo 31-31, ahead of our wheat. Today, we’re in 38-61 Xitavo, so we’ve jumped up quite a few maturity groups, but still running 9 % beans with this dry hot weather we’ve had here beginning of October. Things have dried down very quickly and not really having any rain for the past month these beans died, I would say, a little bit prematurely. Didn’t get to fill those top pots the way we wanted to, but that’s the way it goes when you’re a rainfall -dependent farmer.
So for you guys that have been following along with our videos, you may notice that I have a different hat on today. Stein instead of AgriGold. That’s for one reason, and I wanted to announce to you guys that EZ Custom Ag is now a Stein Independent Sales Representative, so we are actually able to bring Stein to your guys’ farms now.
Stein is actually on about 80 % of the beans that are raised in our country. They are Stein Genetics. So, kind of exciting to have a bean platform that’s that deep. Still going to be placing some AgriGold bean varieties on different acres. Still have a very strong lineup there, but Stein gives us so much more depth across different maturity groups and different soil types. Really excited to bring them on board, partner with them, and bring more opportunity to you guys, or just options for our growers. So we’re really excited to be doing that. You’ll hear us talk a lot more about that. We start talking more about varieties there and everything. Really glad to announce this on YouTube and get that information out to you guys.
But, back to the task at hand. These 38-61’s have been pretty good all day. The yield around the woods, we’ve got woods on both sides of us here, really ate up our average with deer about the first 20 feet all the way around the field. But, overall can’t complain out in the field here.
Been running well above 70, almost in the 80s. So, this variety has been strong for us. The past couple of years does not usually get this tall. We finally got some, I guess some better growing conditions here during the summer to get some height out of this bean this year. Of course, our populations are much lower. We average about 125 ,000 as a drop across our variable rate. But, overall very pleased with the yield on these and we’ll definitely continue to plant some of them in the future.
Brian’s rolling up. Been keeping him busy today. We’ve been moving and he’s got a little bit of a haul to get to the semis. So been keeping him hopping even at beans today. He’s going to be excited to get that second cart when we get into corn here in a few days. He’s got a little bit of help and a little bit more snack time.
Just wanted to announce things to you guys. Let you know what’s going on out here in the field. We should be getting into some foliar trials here in the next couple of days. I can’t wait to tell you guys the results on that. I’ve walked them, but as far as beans go, it’s hard to tell yield differences. Even if it’s five bushel yield difference, it’s hard to tell in beans. I’ll be excited to bring that data to you guys here in the next few days, and we’ll see you next time out in the field.
